‘Award-Winning Spirits Brand Smugglers Spirits Release New Triple Cask Irish Whiskey’
Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey is the latest drinks product to be launched by Edinburgh-based Smugglers Spirits. The drinks company launched in 2020 by the Keane family, owners of Malones pubs in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Being an Edinburgh based company, the decision to release an Irish whiskey may draw the question: Why not a Scotch? But for award-winning spirits brand Smugglers Spirits, the Irish connection runs deep.
The whiskey in question – Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey – is a new premium Irish whiskey that’s made its way across to Scotland from the Emerald Isle. With deep layers of flavour that come from being triple cask matured, Malones Triple Cask is an answer to the calls of Scotland’s Irish whiskey lovers, as well as those who want to sip from the generous highball of authentic Irish culture. The versatile Irish whiskey is now available to buy online and in select Scottish bars, and is part of Smugglers Spirits’ exciting and expanding portfolio.
The story of Malones Irish Whiskey started with a family goal – to make great whiskey that people love to drink!
“As a family run business, whiskey is something we are very passionate about. Whether you distil, consume or sell whiskey you can’t help but fall in love with all the complexity and variations whiskey has to offer. We have taken our family’s collective decades of knowledge and worked together with one of the best master distillers in Ireland to create a versatile whiskey that represents the best of the old world as well as the new.”
Simon Keane, co-founder Smugglers Spirits
Family, friendship and community are important values for the family. Since their communities reside in Ireland and in Scotland, creating an authentic Irish Whiskey for everyone to enjoy has allowed them to create a space for both communities. The family’s vast experience and knowledge of Irish pubs and drinks only serves to make Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey even more delicious.
Having observed a shift in whiskey drinking habits in recent years, in particular the rise in whiskey cocktails, it was important for the family that their Irish whiskey be versatile. Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey is unique, not just because of the smooth complexity and flavour brought by the three casks, it has the family’s touch.
Distilled in the heart of Dublin’s historic whiskey district, the first edition whiskey is matured for 4-9 years in three distinct casks, resulting in strong layered flavours in the final product. Caramel sweetness comes from ex-Kentucky Bourbon barrels, while Oloroso Sherry contributes the deep flavour of dark fruits. Finally ex-Red Ale casks round off with toffee, oak, and vanilla. The whiskey is non-chilled filtered to achieve maximum retention of these intricate flavours.
Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey is now the house pour in Irish pubs Malones Glasgow, Malones Edinburgh and Malones Aberdeen, as well as Edinburgh cocktail bar Cask Smugglers.
